The most dreary of months, made even more so this year by the lack of theatre! Fortunately, this shall be put right on Tuesday when I see the RSC’s touring production of Othello at Warwick Arts (there’s an excellent interview with director Kathryn Hunter here). I’m reading the play for the first time at the moment, and it’s reminding me why I wanted to do English Literature in the first place, which is no mean feat when you consider how disillusioned I’ve become with it all.
Although I did see Lindsay Posner’s production of Carousel over Christmas and liked it very much, I’m going to wait until I see it again (I don’t often do return visits, but this is different) before writing a review- it’s just one of those things. I was lucky enough to get a backstage tour from the charming and amazingly talented leading lady, Alexandra Silber (definitely one of the finest Julies ever), which was a lovely treat. Being the only person in England to actually own a copy of Liliom has its advantages
As her Kurt Weill album is currently my most played CD, here’s Ute Lemper performing The Saga of Jenny. I hope she does some more concerts in the UK before long.
